Flight Standards operates a modern Elite AT-11 synthetic trainer, upgraded with a visuals package providing photo-realistic imagery through a 120⁰ field of view of any operating area within Australia and New Zealand. This device is the only synthetic trainer available to the aviation community in the Top End and is approved by CASA as a Category B device – allowing Instrument Rating credits for IPC and recency, as well as all instrument approach types. It can emulate a wide range of aircraft types – including the Beechcraft Baron – and has capability for all instrument approach types. The RNAV/GPS unit emulated is a Garmin 430W.
The synthetic trainer is available for private hire for those seeking to maintain instrument proficiency / recency during the Dry Season or when not in frequent IFR flying practice.
