GA Ready Course: Training for the Top End Wet Season

The wet season is approaching in Darwin. Contrary to popular belief, hiring doesn’t stop over this period, so it’s a good time to get ready for the conditions you’ll be flying in.

Training for the wet

The GA Ready Course is designed to educate & expose you to wet season conditions through briefings & charter scenarios. Over two full-time weeks, you’ll also cover customer service, general emergency procedures, Cessna 210 systems & more.

The course includes at least 5 hours on the Cessna 210, remote & unsealed airfield operations (including an overnight on a simulated charter) & Darwin airspace familiarisation with a visit to Darwin ATC. All of our instructors have extensive charter experience in the Top End.

What is the wet season like in the Top End?

The Bureau of Meteorology counts Darwin’s wet season as November to April. It usually begins in the last week of October, with the build-up from October to December followed by the monsoon from January to April. Flying through it calls for careful weather planning & sound decision-making, which is what the course’s briefings & charter scenarios focus on.

Next course: Monday 2 November

Places are still available for our next GA Ready Course, starting Monday 2 November. Courses start on the first Monday of each month & run full-time for two weeks, with six places per intake. Online bookings for this intake close at 5pm on Friday 30 October.

Book online or call our office on 1800 435 946.
