DARWIN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Darwin offers the safety & challenge of controlled airspace. As a result, you’ll gain valuable experience talking with Air Traffic Control & working in (sometimes) busy airspace. You’ll need this skill for a Private Pilot Licence or higher.
The airport also offers every type of navigation aid for Instrument Rating training. On top of that, it has a full range of aviation services, including 24-hour AVGAS & aircraft maintenance.
ARCHERFIELD (BRISBANE), QUEENSLAND

Career students can complete their early training in the “big smoke”. After that, we encourage them to finish their training in the Top End. Our unique operation opens up more opportunities there & many go on to their first flying job with our associated companies!
JANDAKOT (PERTH), WA

BATCHELOR, NT
About an hour’s drive south of Darwin, Batchelor Aerodrome is an ideal remote training airfield. It has a wide, sealed 1,500-metre runway, light traffic & no landing or parking fees.
Flying conditions are calm for most of the year. The main challenges are the occasional morning fog & mild crosswinds in the heat of the day. For pilots who prefer quieter skies away from controlled airspace, it’s a great place to train.
We hold regulatory permission to conduct flight training from Batchelor, but we don’t keep a facility or aircraft there. The Northern Australian Gliding Club & the Darwin Parachute Club also fly from the airfield, mainly on weekends.
EMKAYTEE, NT
Emkaytee Airfield sits near Noonamah, about a 30-minute drive from Darwin. As with Batchelor, we hold regulatory permission to train there, but we don’t keep a facility or aircraft on site.
At Emkaytee, we mainly support the owners who base their aircraft on the field. We also provide flight testing for the Top End Flying Club when needed.
This private airfield is home to an eclectic collection of privately owned aircraft. It also sees plenty of ultralight traffic, especially on weekends.
Training at your location
Can’t get to one of our bases? We’ll come to you. Flight Standards regularly sends instructors to train clients at their home location, whether that’s a remote community or a cattle station. Training where you live & fly means less time away from home or work. It also gives you experience that reflects how you actually operate. Tell us what you need & we’ll work out a solution to suit your requirements, timeframe & budget. Call 1800 435 946 to discuss.
